This has been for many years, a popular annual contest for the best trainee presentation of a research, audit or quality improvement project or a practice-changing case description. Each presentation is usually for 10 minutes with a further 5 minutes for attendee questions. The winner and runner-up will be chosen by those in attendance for the presentations, using slido.com.

Originally named the registrars prize it was recently renamed the trainees prize to recognise the changes that have occurred in training and in time for the production and award of the first Jackson Rees medal. However this is not the first time that a well respected and renowned previous member of the society has been recognised in this way; for the 10 years up to 2001 the ‘Tom Forrest’ medal was awarded.

Entrants

The primary author for entries must be either HEENW (Mersey) or North Wales Anaesthesia, ICM or Pain Medicine trainees (specifically CT1-ST7/8) who have undertaken their work in Mersey or North Wales hospitals (Bangor, Wrexham and Glan Clwyd) or while on out of programme training or experiences while holding a training number within Mersey or North Wales. There can only be one presenter per entry who, if shortlisted, must also be a CT1-ST7/8 Anaesthetic, ICM or Pain Medicine trainee from either HEENW (Mersey) or North Wales hospitals. Applicants who are between training posts and currently within Fellowship/Trust Grade posts within Mersey and N.Wales may also apply but should make their circumstances clear to the secretary on submission to the Prize.
