Past Presidents

LSA President 2014 - 2016
Firstly, welcome to the website of the Liverpool Society of Anaesthetists. Becoming President of this society was a great privilege for me, particularly having been its secretary for nine years. I think that the society has two functions; firstly to invite informative, interesting and entertaining speakers to talk on contemporaneous subjects relevant to all of our practices. Secondly, it is a society and the social aspects of meetings are equally important. Although having grown up in Liverpool, I trained outside Mersey and consequently when I started working at the Countess of Chester Hospital in 1994, I knew very few people locally. The LSA has been a great forum for meeting and getting to know colleagues from around the region.
I wanted to continue to encourage anaesthetists of all grades to attend these meetings and in particular, I wanted as many trainees and junior consultants to be present because without them, this society has no future. It should not only be about hearing some of the best speakers from around the country presenting on interesting topics but also an opportunity to see friends and have a relaxed chat over dinner.
So I hoped to make the meetings welcoming and entertaining events to which people would want to come regularly. Evening functions are not always easy to get to with the many, mainly family, commitments that we all have. However, having attended virtually every meeting over the last ten years, I have rarely left feeling that it wasn’t worth the effort of coming up to Liverpool from Chester. I hope all those that attend our future meetings will feel the same.
I've always looked forward to seeing and meeting many faces from around the region in the months to come. I hope that the society can give you something to think and smile about on the way home.
